The Trash Took Itself Out: When Friends & Acquaintances All Glitch over Men
We talk a lot on this blog about curating your environment, setting boundaries in your career, and keeping your standards high in dating. But let’s get painfully real about female friendships for a second: the trash will always take itself out if you just sit still long enough.
The hardest part isn’t when a random acquaintance shows their true colors. The hardest part is when it’s the girls you grew up with the ones who knew you before you had it figured out, the ones you shared childhood memories with, the ones you thought were locked in for life.
Lately, I’ve had to watch a whole lineup of former friends drop their masks in real time. And when I stepped back to analyze the wreckage, I noticed the ultimate common denominator binding the girls from my past and the ones I met as an adult: they are desperately, dangerously, chronically boy crazy.
When a woman centers her entire identity, self worth, and decision making around male validation, she will cross every boundary, tell every lie, and burn down every female friendship to get it.
Here is the candid truth on how these friendships exposed themselves, and why I cleared the room.
Exhibit A: The Shared Roster Specialist
Let’s start with the absolute lowest vibrational offense imaginable: sleeping with men I’ve dealt with. Not just one ex or a former casual situation, but multiple.
This is someone I grew up with. Someone who knew my history, my past, and my moves. Look, the city can feel small, but it is not that small. There are billions of men walking around this earth, but out of every available option, you somehow keep stumbling into bed with men who have already been in my rotation? That isn’t an accident. That is a sickness.
It’s giving desperate, low vibrational competition. When a woman lacks her own identity and confidence, she tries to consume yours. Because she’s boy crazy and deeply insecure, she thinks that by sleeping with men who wanted me, she’s somehow absorbing my light or validating her own appeal. In reality, it’s just weird, unhygienic, and an instant, permanent revoke of your inner circle card. If male validation means so much to you that you’ll pick up my leftovers, you can stay out in the cold with them.
Exhibit B: The “Is There Beef?” Ghost
Next up is another girl from my past who let a man completely swallow her existence, only to resurface when things inevitably went quiet.
She went radio silent for four straight months. No check in, no effort, no life update just completely ghosted into thin air because she was fully consumed by whatever male attention she was chasing at the moment. I didn’t send dramatic paragraphs. I didn’t ask questions. I just took a mental note, adjusted my boundaries accordingly, and kept my life moving forward.
Fast forward four months later: she sends a dry, casual text like nothing ever happened. When I didn’t respond because my phone is reserved for people who treat me like a priority, not an option she had the nerve to double-text asking if “there was beef.”
The audacity is staggering. Babe, there is no “beef.” Beef requires emotional investment, and I don’t waste emotional bandwidth on part time friends who only remember I exist when their roster clears out. You ghosted for a third of the year to chase a man, and now you expect immediate access to my energy? Expecting me to sit around waiting for your return isn’t friendship, it’s pure entitlement.
Exhibit C: The Pathological Storyteller
Then we have the friend who grew up around us, but somehow developed a dangerous habit of lying to stay relevant in male drama.
This one started an entire campaign lying on another friend’s boyfriend, fabricating complete, out of thin air scenarios. Why? Because when you are chronically boy crazy, you manufacture male centered chaos just to feel like the main character. But when she got caught with the actual receipts, instead of taking accountability like a grown woman, she lied about lying. Then she stacked three more lies on top of the original lie to cover up the second one. It was a whole Russian nesting doll of pure deception.
When a person lies about things that don’t even make sense, they will definitely lie about things that do. If your obsession with men drives you to manufacture drama, ruin relationships, and lie on people’s names for sport, you are an absolute hazard. Pathological lying isn’t just immature it’s dangerous to have around your perimeter.
Exhibit D: The Self-Sabotage Main Character
This one is someone I met as an adult, and while she didn’t do anything directly to me, she was an absolute, destructive nightmare to herself.
Her life was an endless, self inflicted crisis centered around one thing: men. The same toxic guys, the same terrible decisions, the same self sabotage, day in and day out. She treated her life like a trashy reality TV show where a man was always the prize, and expected everyone around her to sit in the front row, clap, console her, and validate her mess every single day.
I realized I was exhausted just watching her move. Her entire existence was wrapped up in male approval, to the point where she had zero identity outside of whoever she was crying over that week. I didn’t hate her, but I refused to play an audience member in her self created circus any longer. You cannot save women who enjoy being in the mud for male attention. Sometimes protecting your peace means quietly stepping out of the theater and letting them perform for an empty room.
Exhibit E: The Oppositional “Great Friend to Everyone Else”
This one hurts in a very specific way because on paper, she’s the ultimate “girls’ girl.”
To the rest of the world, she is supportive, attentive, sweet, and the absolute greatest friend to everybody. But when it came to me? She was consistently, subtly, and calculatedly opposite.
If I shared a win, it was met with coldness or a passive aggressive reality check. If I had a boundary, she’d push it. If I had an opinion, she’d debate it. She’d go out of her way to hold space for strangers and other girls, but with me, the energy was strictly competitive and passive aggressive.
When a woman is sweet to the whole room but sneaky and oppositional with you, pay attention. That is hidden rivalry. She wants the social capital of being seen as a amazing friend, but her low key resentment for your light won’t let her treat you with that same grace. I don’t do fake dynamics where I’m expected to smile while taking micro aggressions. Next!
Exhibit F: The Cop-Out Facer
Then there’s the friend where I honestly can’t even tell you the exact moment the shift happened, but I just knew the friendship was dead in the water. The energy shifted, the distance grew, and the fake vibe became undeniable.
When I finally confronted the shift and asked her directly what was going on, she completely copped out. No accountability, no real conversation, no maturity just vague excuses, deflection, and pretending everything was fine when we both knew the house was on fire.
If we can’t even have an honest, adult conversation about why our bond is falling apart, then there is nothing left to save. I’d respect a real conflict over a cowardly cop out any day. If you don’t have the stomach to be real with me, you don’t deserve a seat at my table.
Exhibit G: The Neutral Spy
Finally, we have the girl I quietly ghosted because she insisted on staying tight with people who explicitly did not like me and whom I did not like.
Look, I am too old for high school drama, but I am also far too wise to keep “neutral” agents in my inner circle. If you are breaking bread, laughing, and sharing space with people who have actively tried to disrespect me, lie on me, or slander my name? You are not neutral. You are a bridge.
I don’t need a spy in my camp. I don’t need someone running back and forth between two sides playing Switzerland. You cannot be loyal to my peace and friendly with my disrespect. I didn’t announce it, I didn’t send a farewell text, and I didn’t give a speech. I just quietly cut the line and let her stay on that side of the fence with them.
Honor the Exit
Growing up with someone doesn’t give them a lifetime pass to disrespect your standards. History is not a hall pass for bad behavior, and neither is playing “neutral” or hiding behind a sweet public persona.
When women center their lives entirely around male approval, unaddressed jealousy, or fake neutrality, they become unreliable, competitive, and downright unsafe as friends. So when the masks slip, don’t get mad, don’t get dramatic, and don’t demand explanations. Honor the exit.
- History isn’t loyalty: Just because someone knew you at 15 doesn’t mean they deserve access to you at 27.
- Watch how they treat you versus the room: A woman who is a saint to the public but oppositional to you is a covert rival.
- Neutrality is a trap: People who stay friendly with your disrespect do not respect you.
- Silence is the ultimate flex: You don’t owe an explanation, a text back, or a confrontation to people who burned their own bridge.
Let the liars lie themselves out of your circle, let the ghosts stay dead, and leave the boy crazy, sneaky energy out in the streets where it belongs. The peace on this side of the line is far too expensive to compromise for anybody.
